Looking for a writer for your creative business who also knows her way around a camera? I can assist with blog writing, instruction creation, book flap and Amazon copy writing, newsletter writing, and any other writing service.
In addition to writing blog posts for SewMcCool and having a former career as a newspaper reporter, I specialize in journalism for sewing/quilting, crafting, small business, and science. I have a bachelor’s degree in journalism from Indiana University, and am earning my master’s degree in science writing from Johns Hopkins University.
One of my current clients includes a popular quilt book publisher, for which I write flap (inside- and back-cover) copy, press releases, and e-newsletters. I also write for a large online craft retail business, photographing and creating instructions in several blog posts each week to promote their products.
I have recently freelanced for the Craft Industry Alliance, Sew Mama Sew, and Fabricworm. In addition, my own book, 50 Ribbon Rosettes and Bows to Make, was published in 2014 through St. Martin’s Griffin Press in the U.S., and Search Press in the U.K.
Need a technical editor for your quilt book, garment pattern, bag pattern, or other sewing or crafting publication? I’ve worked since 2015 as a technical editor for a large quilt/sewing book publisher. Technical editing is about crunching those numbers – for fabric requirements, quilt sizes, cutting instructions, and even all the trigonometry work for “pesky” patchwork triangles and other shapes.
So you’ve written your copy, but just need to have a second opinion? I can do a quick proofread, a deeper edit, or a major revision.
Please email me at birdsongbows [at] gmail.com for a full price sheet. Prices for writing and photography depend on the project, while copy editing/proofreading starts at $25/hour. Technical editing services start at $35/hour. All projects are billed in 15-minute time increments. Complete quotes will be delivered for you consideration once I’ve reviewed your potential project. I’m looking forward to working with you!
